Dear all,
I was sitting with some Muslim friends the other day as they were recounting their tales about their pilgrim to Hajj. From their discussion I could feel that it had a very deep effect on their inner life. It reminded me that a lot a people in the western world live a life void of rituals and rites of passage. Many cultures have pilgrimages but it is has always been for the special few. Typically a pilgrim involves a journey to a holy site to perform certain rites but more and more travelers embark on journeys that are very akin to a spiritual pilgrim. Modern seekers travel to special destination in search of rituals and rites. Their journeys are a metaphor of a spiritual pilgrim.
Indeed, very often visitors at the Sanctuary are seekers that end up stopping for a certain length of time in Ubud to travel within. These travelers wish to deepen their spiritual practice, or are in need of emotional healing, or simply need to take a break to help them make life decisions.
Ubud where I live has always attracted these types of travelers but as the universal consciousness rises, more and more people are gathering here in search of something. They may not always know what they are seeking but they are looking for something.
Undeniably, Bali supports soul searching, perhaps because its hinduism, energy flow and high vibration which supports transformation. Bali is a good place to be while your life is in transition and a perfect place for contemplation. I often meet people that were very busy in their professional life and they end up coming to Bali to stop and reflect. I have witnessed countless people shifting during the course of their stay in Bali providing that they were ready to welcome change with open arms and to embrace a new way of life: The only thing that is required is to be ready to release, to connect with your own power, to be willing to move forward in your life and take the next step on your spiritual path. The rest will follow.
This is why I try to facilitate for the participants that come to the sanctuary an experience of sacredness that includes rituals and rites to punctuate their journey.
Bali has a lot to offer in this respect whether one connects with the local people or with expatriates that are practicing healing arts. One thing is certain, if you have the chance while you are in Bali to connect with local people, consider this as a privilege and accept the invitation. Be ready to move behind your comfort zone. What has made my experience in Bali so magical is my close relationship with the local people whom I have learned to trust over the years. Wanting to contribute to Bali and sharing one's “savoir fair” is good but many of us forget that we can learn a great deal from this spiritual place.
Be open and receptive to this beautiful island.
