The former village Ubud is an old place for healing. The name Ubud actually comes from the word “obat” (Balinese/Indonesian) what means medicine. Here had been healers located who grew their own medical plants. Therefore, doing yoga in Ubud to enable self-healing is following the healing tradition of the little town Ubud, Bali.
Ubud has still a lot of nature to relish. Rice paddies stretch out behind the busy streets. The town has several river valleys with jungle on the slopes. Not to forget about the blessings of the climate. The temperature in Ubud remains around 29 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Yoga students can enjoy daily practice in open-air shalas regardless of the month they visit. The weather is consistently suitable for outdoor sessions. Even during the rainy season, it typically rains for only 2-4 hours per day. This means there is still lots of daytime left to explore Ubud after or before yoga class. Enjoy Ubud’s beautiful nature, and try out the healthy traditional food.

Yoga classes at Nalanda School are held at our open-air yoga shala, located in a lush garden close to the jungle. What can be better than to have a jungle view when you do asanas? The peace and healing quietness of nature around our yoga shala in Penestanan Kelod Ubud will embrace you softly. Thanks to daily Balinese offerings to the nature and the gods, the energies are as balanced as in the old days.
We recommend starting gently. For example, in a drop-in Gentle Yoga class, your body gets accustomed to the asanas in a supportive and soft way. If the asanas come easily to you, you can move on to more advanced classes. Also, the morning yoga class at Intuitive Flow is very suitable for beginners.
If you feel like doing a day of yoga, you can join the morning and the late afternoon class at Intuitive Flow Ubud. You set the peaceful pace for the day in morning yoga class. In the afternoon you will enjoy doing yoga in the different energy of the afternoon. Then the body is ready to do a different set of asanas to benefit your health and your mind.
Prices for yoga classes in Ubud start from IDR 10.000 IDR (mostly for locals only) and go up to 150.000 IDR per class. Many yoga students are on a budget. We hear you. At Intuitive Flow a drop-in yoga class costs IDR 110.000 (around 7.5 US$), for Balinese it costs IDR 10.000 and for people with Indonesian ID card IDR 65.000. We give big discounts if you buy 5 or 10 yoga classes.
Yoga and meditation go quite well together. After doing yoga practice, sitting meditation is much easier. Your energy running through meridians/nadis is balanced and your muscles and tendons are relaxed. Often yoga classes in Ubud have meditation time in the end. At Intuitive Flow, our yoga lessons also conclude with meditation, tailored to the needs and preferences of the group.
In Hatha Yoga the students hold the poses (asana) for a certain time before going to the next asana. It is an original yoga practice from India and was developed 5000 years ago. The broad range of physical and mental benefits makes it an excellent yoga practice.
Hatha Vinyasa flow follows the same principles as Hatha Yoga, but the postures are linked in a flow-like manner with fluidity and synchronized with the breath. It has a faster pace than Hatha Yoga. Therefore, Vinyasa is recommended for students who already do daily yoga practice.
Hatha Vinyasa Yoga is over 2000 years old, an old traditional yoga practice from India.
A Morning yoga practice wakes your body, boosts your energy and improves your mood, leaving you refreshed and preparing your entire body for the day ahead.
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine. The asanas are held for more extended periods than in other classes.
Yin Yoga was developed last century, based on Taoist teachings on Yin and Yang. Yin Yoga practice helps to connect with the body and the emotions. It is less physical demanding than Hatha Yoga.
Prana yoga focuses on balancing the prana in the body and mind while moving from one asana to another, guided by breath to experience self-awareness, vitality and well-being. It’s a beautiful way to get a good workout and calm the mind and find inner peace. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their physical and mental health!
Restorative Yoga uses props to support asanas. In our classes, we’ll use props like folded blankets for relaxation, stress relief, and calmness. The main goal is to restore balance to the body and mind. Restorative yoga is highly regarded for its deep relaxation benefits.
Gentle yoga practice is an excellent choice for anyone and is often intended to be less intense, non-strenuous, quiet, and meditative. Gentle Yoga allows you to come away feeling flexible in your body, relaxed in your minds, and calm in your nervous systems.
Gently Yoga was invented last century by a student of B.K.S. Iyengar. Gentle Yoga has an outstanding gentle approach, since it is meant to help people who are sick or injured to heal.
In Ubud, you can find an even wider variety of yoga styles beyond the ones mentioned earlier. These include Kundalini Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Hot Yoga, Aerial Yoga, Fly-High Yoga, Sky Yoga, and Anti-Gravity Yoga. Numerous yoga schools in Ubud provide instruction in these diverse styles.
However, we have chosen to focus on teaching the more gentle styles that foster self-healing on all levels.
