pranayama

Dear all,

Having seen Bali changed, during the course of the 15 years I have been on this very special island, has taught me about the impermanence of the nature of life. Impermanence is an undeniable and unavoidable fact of our human existence. According to Buddhism, there are five aspects of life that human being have no control: growing old, not falling sick, dying, decay of perishable things and the passing away of time.

Whatever we resist persists and as a result, sometimes, changes are pushed upon us. As spiritual seekers we learn to say yes to what ever comes along our path. We understand that challenges are experiences promoting our growth and that everything happens in our lives for a reason. We must accept that things do not always go our way and learn to go with the flow.

If we relinquish control, more than often, changes come in their own time when we are ready. There is a divine order of things and like a fruit, we need to be ripened. Perseverance is not enough. Many people have been taught from a young age to force their will and consider yielding a weakness. As a result, when they embrace a new yogic way of life, they impose upon themselves too much discipline and restrictions. There is no need for that, when we commit to a yogic lifestyle, we start shedding unwanted habits, one at the time, naturally, effortlessly with no pressure because we no longer crave them.

Changes occur when we are ready to say yes to a new experience instead of saying no to the old. Being opened and willing to say yes is an entirely different approach that channels our energy toward the positive outcome. But it has to come from within. This is where the yogic path takes us, within.

When change is forced upon us, having a meditation practice helps us understand that fear triggers our small self to say no, causing us to close up and shield. However our higher self is always saying yes calling us to open and connect. By uniting with the center of permanence that exists within oneself, it helps to overcome hardship. Our soul is immortal, permanent and stable.

So do your asanas, your meditation and trust your own process. The rest will follow.

In peace and love,

Linda
